Mililani takes OIA
softball title again

Adrienne Kasaoka drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Mililani its second Oahu Interscholastic Association girls' softball title yesterday with a 2-1 victory over Waianae at Roosevelt High field.

It was Mililani's 29th consecutive league win, sending the Trojans into next week's state tournament at the University of Hawaii's Rainbow Wahine softball stadium.

Johnna Rowland ran her record to 13-0, scattering four hits. Searider pitcher Jasmine Choy also pitched a four-hitter.

In other games, Pearl City defeated Kailua, 6-2, for third place, and Kalaheo shut out Kaimuki, 3-0, in 12 innings to claim the OIA's fifth berth in the state tournament.

IOLANI 2, PUNAHOU 0:

At Iolani, Mitzi Ing did it all for the Raiders, helping the Interscholastic League of Honolulu champions finish a perfect regular season.

Ing pitched a four-hitter, striking out three. She had two hits and scored a run in the first inning.

Iolani, the defending state champion, heads into the playoffs with a 16-0 record.

Punahou is 8-7.

SACRED HEARTS 8, HBA/PRIORY 0:

At Kamamalu Field, Tina Gonsalves fired a four-hitter and doubled in a pair of runs to lead the Lancers to victory.

Amber Juan led the Sacred Hearts hit parade, going 3-for-4 at the plate.

The Lancers finished at 11-5, in third place, while the Eagles finished their regular season at 8-8.

Punahou hands
Iolani its first loss

Ryan Saito scored 21 points as Punahou upset previously unbeaten Iolani, 45-41, in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu boys' basketball game at the Raiders' gym last night.

The Buffanblu (6-2) didn't allow a 3-pointer, and no Iolani player reached double digits in scoring.

The Raiders are 7-1.

Leilehua upsets Kaiser
in OIA soccer tourney

Leilehua upset top-seeded Kaiser, 1-0, at Kaiser in yesterday's quarterfinals of the Oahu Interscholastic Association boys' soccer tournament.

The Menehunes (7-3-1) earned a berth in the state tournament with their win, and will play Mililani in the semifinals of the OIA Tournament.

Kaiser (8-2-0) is forced to win two more games for a spot in the state playoffs.

MILILANI 6, KAILUA 0:

At Kaiser, the Trojans pounded the Surfriders to advance to the semifinal round.

Kurt Kagawa led the charge for unbeaten Mililani (8-0-2) with a pair of goals.

Kailua (7-3-1) will meet Kaiser Feb. 2 as the four teams that lost in the quarterfinals scramble to fill the last OIA slot in the state tournament.

PEARL CITY 4, KALAHEO 0:

At Pearl City, the Chargers (9-0-1) shut down the Mustangs to advance to a meeting with Castle in the semifinals.

CASTLE 2, AIEA 1:

The Knights (8-2-0) slipped past Aiea on the strenth of two Marcus Tani goals.

Aiea (8-2-1) and Kalaheo (7-4-0) will play Feb. 2.

ST. LOUIS 6, DAMIEN 1:

The Crusaders powered past the winless Monarchs (0-10-1) at Kapiolani park. Jonathan Robella led the St. Louis (5-2-3) attack with two goals.

IOLANI 1, PUNAHOU 1:

At Iolani, the highly anticipated rematch of the top two teams in the ILH ended in a tie.

The Raiders (9-0-2) maintained their slim lead over the Buffanblu (9-1-1), with one game remaining for each team.

Iolani will play fourth-place Kamehameha, and Punahou will face third-place St. Louis on Saturday.

The team that finishes in second will battle Maui Interscholastic League runner-up Baldwin for a state playoff berth.

KAMEHAMEHA 1, MID-PACIFIC 0:

The Warriors blanked the Owls, and improved to 4-4-2 on the season. Tetua Paoa scored the game's only goal.

Mid-Pac fell to 1-9-1.
