Former NFL quarterback, Hawaii offensive coordinator and Hawaii Hammerheads head coach Guy Benjamin will become head coach of a new Portland, Ore., franchise in the Indoor Professional Football League.

Benjamin, who led the Hammerheads to the IPFL title last August, said he expects to finalize his contract terms this week with the new team.

The Hammerheads, the first Hawaii pro football team to ever win a league title, have folded.

Several former Rainbow and Hammerhead players will play next season in the Arena Football League, according to Benjamin.

Mouse Davis has signed defensive backfield players Eddie Klaneski, Chris Shinnick, and Niko Vitale to play with the expansion Detroit franchise.

Tim Carey, who quarterbacked the Rainbows in 1998 and the Hammerheads last year, has signed with the AFL's Houston franchise.
