The interisland cruise ship SS Independence is towed
to a Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard dock this morning
where it will spend the next two weeks undergoing
routine maintenance. It is the first time that a regularly
scheduled dry-docking of a commercial vessel has been
done at Pearl Harbor. Docking the Independence at
Pearl Harbor will mean that it will be put back into
service 10 days sooner than having the work done
in Oregon, as has been done in the past. The project
will employ 700 Hawaii workers.
