Yamamoto, 12, wins
Ala Moana tennis title

Julienne Yamamoto, a 12-year-old Moanalua Elementary School student, defeated 17-year-old Mililani High School player Geri Maeshiro, 7-6, 4-6, 7-5, yesterday for the women's singles title of the 79th annual Ala Moana Open Tennis Championships.

Punahou School's Ikaika Jobe beat three-time champion Andrew Csordas, 7-5, 7-5, in the men's final at Diamond Head Tennis Center.

Jobe also teamed with Ko Dericks to win the men's doubles title, beating Sheldon Kennell and Bill Liston, 7-6, 6-3.

St. Louis, East Anchorage to tangle for Wong title

The host St. Louis Crusaders will play powerful East Anchorage (Alaska) tonight at 7:30 at McCabe Gym for the championship of the Walter Wong Holiday Basketball Classic.

In last night's semifinals, Kalvin Koverman scored 13 points to lead St. Louis past Kalaheo, 44-36, and Brandon Edwards popped in 14 as East Anchorage belted Iolani, 64-30.

The Mustangs and Raiders will play for third place today at 6.

The 3 p.m. opening game for seventh place pits Castle against Nanakuli. Leilehua meets Sonora (Calif.) for fifth place at 4:30.

Imua 2000 Fun Run/Walk

The Kamehameha Schools ohana is sponsoring the Imua 2000 Fun Run/Walk, a benefit for the Aloha United Way that will be held on Jan. 26, beginning at 7 a.m. at Kahala Mall.

The 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) course runs from the mall on Kilauea Avenue to Niu Valley on Kalanianaole Highway and back to the mall.

Awards will be given to the top three finishers (male and female in the open and various age-group divisions - from 14-and-under to 70-plus. Entrants 10-and-under must be accompanied by adults.

The fee is $18 for entries postmarked by Jan. 22. The race-day entry fee is $25. Entry forms will be available at running stores and fitness centers, or by calling 842--8461.

Hawaii Pacific 89, Maryville (Mo.) 78

At Blaisdell Arena, Ryan Adle scored 25 points, connecting on 12 of 15 shots from the floor, and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Sea Warriors.

Kawika Smith added 21 points for HPU, which evened its record at 6-6.

Matt Rubel had a game-high 26 points for the Saints (1-5).
