June Jones What a difference a year makes.

After finishing last season with a disappointing 0-12 record, the University of Hawaii made one of the biggest turnarounds in the history of college football when the Rainbows ended the year at 8-4.

And they have June Jones to thank for that.

The Sporting News and CNN-Sports Illustrated recognized Jones for resurrecting the pride and spirit at Manoa by naming him their coach of the year.

"His (Jones) cause was augmented by playing nine home games, but nothing can diminish what he has accomplished," wrote Tom Dienhart of The Sporting News.

CNN-SI made Jones its choice over Frank Beamer of Virginia Tech and Glen Mason of Minnesota.

Jones, is also one of 16 candidates for Associated Press coach of the year honors. AP will make its announcement next week.
