McGee in coma

Honolulu's Kainoa McGee, a top international bodyboarder, remains in a coma after suffering a seizure Sunday.

McGee, 28, has been undergoing testing for an unspecified illness. He has finished second in the world bodyboarding championships four times.

Jaskulski sets record

Erwin Jaskulski, the 97-year-old senior sprinter from Honolulu, established his third world age-group record on Nov. 30 by completing the 400-meter dash of the Hawaii Senior Olympics in 2:38.6 at Kaiser High School. There is no previous record for the 400 in the 95+ age group for men.

Earlier this year, Jaskulski established world records in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes.

Morita wins Fever prize

Earl Morita was surprised to find out he had won this week's Football Fever contest and still isn't sure where the credit is due.

"I think my aunty filled it out," Morita said of the winning ballot, which had nine of 10 games picked correctly to qualify for the drawing.

"We've been trying for many years. I filled one out, too. But she really follows football. Anyway, sounds good to me."

The hotel worker from Moiliili gets $500 and two tickets to the Rivals.com Hula Bowl Maui.

Special Olympics champs

The Leeward Spurs shaded Molokai Koa Mana, 35-31, in overtime Sunday for the Division A basketball championship of the Special Olympics Holiday Classics.

The Maui Knicks took Division B honors while Duck, Maui Magic and Pearl City Highlands Peaches were the C, D and Youth champs.

Jillian Hatada of Hilo and Ola Reimann of Molokai captured Outstanding Athlete of the Year awards.

Quiet Riot wins

Bob Ito's Quiet Riot won its Volkswagen dragsters match-race showdown against Thomas Courtney's Quarterflash 2 during the Winter Bug-In '99 Saturday at Hawaii Raceway Park.

Henry Ader of Ewa Beach won the Quick Eight competition with a time of 10.48 seconds. Paul Souza of Kaimuki was second.

Waianae's John Bator won the open bracket with a time of 15.82 seconds in his '87 Nissan pickup.
