Gucci show is a
rare pearl

A LARGE well-dressed crowd attended Gucci's fashion show last weekend at the striking Diamond head residence of Jany Cataldo, located between the homes of Jim Nabors and the Mug shotlate Doris Duke. Jany, who designs and sells black, golden and white pearl jewelry, allowed Gucci isle chief Sharleen Perreira and the Ala Moana store's Greg Nakamatsu, who orchestrated the affair, to use her showplace to display Gucci's latest fashions. Gucci's Susan Brubaker and Frank De Vitis were here from the mainland for the show, a Life Foundation benefit. Models were from Sri and Ruz Rusden's More Models. Catering was by Kahala Caterers ...

Surprise for SOS' Sagum

People close to Society of Seven member Bert Sagum pulled a fast one on him for a birthday surprise. They took him golfing at Ko Olina one week before his recent birthday. Then they went to Eurasia for beverages where, to Bert's surprise, a crowd was waiting for him, including Mayor Jeremy Harris and his wife, Ramona. Martin Nievera flew in from Manila for the party. Star-Bulletin cartoonist Corky Trinidad did a huge drawing of Bert which guests signed. A golf tourney, organized by Fran Kirk and Gary Bautista, was held the next day at Olomana to benefit Bert's favorite charity, Bantay Bata, for Manila's homeless kids ...

Judging from the tasty musical morsels the Hawaii Opera Theatre has been serving at recent events, the upcoming season has great promise. Wagner's "Tristan und Isolde," Jan. 28, is the opener, followed by Rossini's "Barber of Seville," Feb. 11, and the run of Puccini's "Madama Butterfly" Feb. 25. Wagner's grandson, Wolfgang Wagner, will be here for "Tristan" ... Jim Nabors' Christmas show with the Honolulu Symphony Dec. 3-5 at the Hawaii Theatre is always a treat. Jim has Emma Veary and Karen Keawehawaii with him again ... Jason Momoa, the "Baywatch Hawaii" regular and a top model, will be at Saks Off 5th at Waikele next Saturday from noon to 1 p.m. signing photos...
