men’s, women’s
basketball games
go on sale today

The University of Hawaii men's and women's basketball tickets went on sale today to the public at the Stan Sheriff Center box office.

Tickets also can be bought from the UH Campus Center and the Rainbowtique at Ward Centre during normal business hours.

The Rainbow men will play their first exhibition at home Sunday at 4:30 p.m. against the Northwest All-Stars.

Tickets can be ordered by phone by calling 808-944-BOWS (2697). Phone orders began today at noon and will be taken until 4 p.m. After today, phone sales will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is a $2 fee per phone-ordered ticket.

The arena ticket prices for men's basketball: Lower $14; upper $10; Students 4-18 $7; UHS-Upper $7; wheelchair adult $10; wheelchair-students 4-18 $7; wheelchair-UHS $7; UHS super rooter $8; UHS super rooter guest $14.

Arena ticket prices for women's basketball: Adult $6; senior citizen (65-up) $5; students 4-18 $4; UH student $4.

Big Island Invitational lands Fox TV contract

The eighth annual City Bank/Aloha Airlines Big Island Invitational Basketball Tournament, an eight-team attraction hosted by Hawaii-Hilo on Nov. 26-28, will be televised on the Fox Sports Network.

Opening-round and semifinal games will be regionally televised and the championship game will be shown live nationwide.

Joining UH-Hilo in the tournament field will be Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Rhode Island, Santa Clara, Arkansas, Mercer and Iowa State.

Rainbow volleyball team debuts at Block Party

The 2000 edition of the University of Hawaii men's volleyball team will host the fourth Block Party intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday, Nov. 10.

The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Klum Gym. Tickets are $5 and available at the door prior to game time.

Returning for the Rainbows are all-MPSF performers Torry Tukuafu and Dejan Miladinovic. Also back are Brenton Davis, Russell Lockwood and Clay Stanley, the latter who trained with the U.S. national team over the summer.

Among the newcomers for coach Mike Wilton are freshmen Eyal Zimet (Israel), Konstantinos Theocharidis (Greece), Stefan Krejci (Austria) and Tony Ching (Kamehameha Schools).

BYU-Hawaii, HPU remain 1-2 in Division II poll

The Brigham Young-Hawaii and Hawaii Pacific women's volleyball teams stayed Nos. 1 and 2 in yesterday's AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll.

The Seasiders (21-1) received 24 first-place votes and 621 points. The Sea Warriors (21-2), whose only loses are to BYUH, earned the last vote and 601 points.

Wahine sailing team fourth at fall regatta

At Long Beach, Calif., the University of Hawaii women's sailing team placed fourth overall at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate Yacht Racing Association Women's Fall Championships.

The Wahine won two races, finished second once and had four thirds for 33 points in the A Division. In the B Division, Hawaii scored 84 points.

The Wahine will next compete at the IYRA Singlehanded Championships this weekend in Newport, R.I.

Lacrosse tourney this weekend at Kapiolani Park

Teams from Japan, Canada, the mainland U.S. and Hawaii will compete in the annual Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational, Saturday and Sunday, at Kapiolani Park.

Matches run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. Admission is free.

Canadian teams here for lawn bowling tourney

Twelve teams of lawn bowlers from Canada will take part in a tournament along with the Honolulu Lawn Bowls Club in Ala Moana Park today through Nov. 10.

Play begins at 9:30 a.m. each day. The field is located ewa of McCoy Pavilion.
