Nefu Mageo passed for 289 yards and a touchdown and ran for two more scores as Waipahu downed Waianae, 27-21, in Oahu Interscholastic Association football yesterday at the Seariders' field.

Mageo, who completed 17 of 34 passes, connected with Titipa Andrews on a 65-yard scoring play in the third quarter to give the Marauders a 21-7 lead.

Quarterback Sam Keaulii responded with a 64-yard TD strike to Lono Manners for Waianae (2-2). But Waipahu (2-2) drew away on a 1-yard scoring plunge by Iakopo Leota in the fourth quarter.

At Pearl City, Robert Naeole and Willis Yin combined to rush for 251 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Golden Hawks (3-0) past the Chargers (0-4).

Naeole broke loose on a 68-yard scoring run, finishing with 154 yards on 16 rushes.Yin carried 15 times for 97 yards and scored twice on short runs.

Trailing, 28-0, the Chargers scored three fourth-quarter touchdowns, recovering onside kicks after the first two. But a third onside attempt with 1 minutes left sailed out of bounds and Nanakuli ran out the clock.

At Roosevelt, Paul Gusman scored four touchdowns and rushed for 206 yards as the Rough Riders rolled past the Menehunes.

Gusman helped Roosevelt establish an early lead with the first two scores, including a 91-yard off-tackle run.

Roosevelt backup quarterback Akalia Fox, in for Chad Kapanui, who broke his thumb last week, hit Allen Imamura for an 80-yard score on his third pass.

Roosevelt (3-1) had 17 penalties in the game and Moanalua (2-1) had 12.
