Garden Isle begins
nine days of festivities

The Kauai Mokihana Festival starts today. Since beginning 15 years ago, the event has grown to nine days filled with festivities around the island.

Activities include special-lei contests, a statewide hula competition and a Kauai composers contest.

The full list of events for the Garden Island fair can be found at

http://www.kauai.net/arts/mokihana/mokimain.html.

The idea, according to festival founder Nathan Kalama, is to "showcase the Kauai creative community, support Hawaiian culture, and the visitor and business industry."
