TOKYO -- Musashimaru suffered his first defeat and his fellow yokozunas (grand champions) Takanohana and Wakanohana their second upsets on Monday, the second day of the 15-day Autumn Grand Sumo tournament.

Hawaii-born yokozuna Akebono, whose real name is Chad Rowan, remained undefeated at 2-0.

In the day's final bout at Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo arena in downtown Tokyo, No. 1 maegashira (senior wrestler) Tochiazuma sent out Hawaii-born yokozuna Musashimaru after a battle of more than 2 minutes.

Tochiazuma, who defeated Takanohana on opening day, dodged Musashimaru's initial charge of driving attempts skillfully and forced him out for his second victory against no defeats. Musashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani, is 1-1.

A sumo wrestling bout usually ends in 10 or 15 seconds.

Akebono charged No. 2 maegashira Kyokushuzan from Mongolia with a powerful hand thrust and sent him out. Kyokushuzan, or Tsevegnyam Nyamjav, is 0-2.

Komusubi (junior champion second class) Kotonishiki charged Wakanohana with a series of hand thrusts, grabbed his opponent's belt and sent him out. Kotonishiki is 1-1 and Wakanohana 0-2.

Komusubi Musoyama attacked Takanohana with a leg trick and threw him down for his second victory against no defeats. Takanohana is 0-2.

In other major bouts, ozeki Dejima bulldozed out No. 1 maegashira Tamakasuga, leaving both wrestlers at 1-1.

Ozeki Chiyotaikai charged No. 2 maegashira Asanosho with a series of hand thrusts and sent him out for his second victory against no defeats. Asanosho is 1-1.

Sekiwake (junior champion) Kaio grabbed ozeki Takanonami's belt and threw him out for his second victory against no defeats. Takanonami is 1-1.

No. 12 maegashira Kyokutenho, or Mongolian Tsevegnyam Nyamjav, held on No. 13 maegashira Yotsukasa's driving attempts at the ring's edge and threw him down to improve his record to 1-1. Yotsukasa is 0-2.

In the juryo division, just below the senior makuuchi division, No. 10-ranked Hoshitango, or Argentine Imach Marcelo Salomon, was pushed out by No. 12-ranked Tamarikido (2-0) for his first defeat against one victory.

No. 10-ranked Sentoryu, or American Henry Armstrong Miller, sent out No. 13-ranked Tamanonada, leaving both wrestlers at 1-1.

In makushita, the top junior division, No. 26-ranked Kuniazuma (1-0), or Brazilian Vander Ramos, threw down No. 27-ranked Otoryu.

No. 6-ranked Wakaazuma (0-1), or Yoshinobu Kuroda from Brazil, was shoved out by No. 7-ranked Toyozakura.

In sandanme, the second highest junior division, No. 85-ranked Kaihakusan (1-0), or South Korean Baeg Yun-gi, sent out equally-ranked Chiyotaka.

No. 66-ranked Ryuo (0-1), or Wang Yu from Shanghai, China, was pushed out by No. 67-ranked Kaishin.

In the jonidan, the third highest junior division, No. 118-ranked Kotonomori (1-0), or Brazilian Mario Fuchiue, pulled down No. 119-ranked Daitenryu.

Wrestlers in junior divisions have only seven bouts during the 15-day tournament.
