Sea Warriors,
Seasiders 1-2 in poll

The unbeaten Hawaii Pacific and BYU-Hawaii women's volleyball teams remained 1-2 in this week's Division II Coaches Top 25 poll announced yesterday.

HPU received 22 first-place votes and BYUH got the other three.

Wahine up there, too

Hawaii's Wahine were third nationally in the USA Today/AVCA Division I Coaches poll and No. 7 in the Volleyball Magazine ratings.

Unbeaten UH trailed Pacific and Penn State in the coaches' Top 25. Pacific and Penn State also were 1-2 in the magazine poll, followed by Long Beach State, Nebraska, Texas, Florida and the Wahine.

Final four ticket sale

Ticket packages for the remaining seats for the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship final four went on sale today at the Stan Sheriff Center ticket office.

About 3,000 upper-level ticket packages at $20 each are available for the matches on Dec. 16 and 18. Lower-level packages are sold out.

Ticket office hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Tickets also may be purchased at the UH Campus Center and Rainbowtique outlets or through the UH phone service line (944-BOWS) from noon today to 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Australia's Brooke wins European surf meet

Serena Brooke defeated fellow Australian Melanie Rodman in yesterday's women's final of the European Billabong Pro surfing meet at Anglet, France, yesterday.

The victory kept alive Brooke's hope of overtaking Layne Beachley, another Aussie, for the Association of Surfing Professionals World Tour title.

Redman is third in the world standings. Hawaii's Rochelle Ballard and Megan Abubo are fourth and fifth, respectively.

Conan Hayes was the lone Hawaii surfer to advance through yesterday's fourth round of the men's event. He won his heat against Australian Glyndyn Ringrose. Ross Williams of Hawaii lost to World Tour leader Mark Occhilupo of Australia.

Meetings for baseball, softball candidates

University students interested in trying out for the Sea Warriors baseball team should attend a preliminary meeting Friday at 4 p.m. in the HPU downtown athletic office, 1060 Bishop Street.

For those who would like to try out for the HPU softball team, a preliminary meeting will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Windward Campus softball field.
