Ex-CEO of Aloha joins Cheap Tickets' board

Cheap Tickets Inc., the Honolulu-based retailer of discount air fares, has named former Aloha Airlines president Maurice Myers to a seat on its board of directors.

Myers is currently chairman, president and chief executive officer of Yellow Corp., a Kansas-based trucking company that had revenues of $2.9 billion last year.

His experience before that was primarily with airlines. Before joining Yellow, he was president and chief executive of America West Holdings Corp., parent of America West Airlines. From 1983 to 1994, Myers was president and chief executive of Aloha Airgroup Inc., the parent of Aloha Airlines and Island Air. Before that, he was in marketing development at Continental Airlines Inc.

Coke shares lose fizz in bubbly market

ATLANTA -- Coca-Cola Co. stock slumped in a rising market today as it warned that third-quarter earnings will fall short of Wall Street forecasts because of weak beverage sales in Asia and South America.

The soft-drink giant predicted earnings per share will be 34 cents to 35 cents in the quarter, compared with analysts' expectations of 36 cents. The earnings estimate excludes the impact of a product recall in Europe, which will reduce earnings for the quarter by an additional 2 cents to 3 cents a share, the company said. Coke shares closed down $2.12 at $57.37 today on the New York Stock Exchange.
