Today marks the beginning of a monthlong salute to John Hirokawa's "Magic of Polynesia," marking its one-year anniversary at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel.

Hawaii's top stars will join Hirokawa for brief performances Thursdays and Fridays in September.

There will be two shows nightly at 6:25 and 8:45 p.m. featuring Hirokawa's death-defying illusions, accompanied by high-tech lighting and special effects, music and dancing.

Special guest appearances will take place at 8:15 p.m. on the following dates:

Bullet Today -- Moke Boy and the Opihi Pickers

Bullet Tomorrow -- Loyal Garner and Alfredo Romero

Bullet Sept. 9 -- Melveen Leed and Jeff Apaka

Bullet Sept. 10 -- Danny Couch and Nohelani Cypriano

Bullet Sept. 16 -- Bruno and the Lovenotes

Bullet Sept. 17 -- Danny Kaleikini

Bullet Sept. 23 -- Forte

Bullet Sept. 24 -- Jan Brenner and Melinda Carroll

Bullet Sept. 30 -- Legends in Concert, with Valerie Jackson as Diana Ross, Sally Davis as Celine Dion and Tommy D as Roy Orbison.

Johnny Kai, who dos the regular pre-show warm-up, will emcee the program.

Dinner show runs $64 per person; $129 deluxe package includes preferred seating, souvenir photo and lei. Cocktail show admission is $35, with a 30 percent discount for the anniversary. Kamaaina rates also available.
