Interim Bishop trustee
gets bank post

Interim Bishop Estate trustee Constance "Connie" Lau has been named chief operating officer and director of American Savings Bank, the state's third-largest financial institution.

Info Box She is to assume her new post Sept. 1, reporting to Wayne K. Minami, president and chief executive at the bank. "We're looking forward to her bringing new vitality and fresh ideas to American Savings Bank," said Minami. Lau is currently treasurer of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc., parent of American Savings. She is also chief financial officer of HEI Power Corp.

Lau formerly was a corporate attorney in San Francisco specializing in banking, securities and real estate law. She is a graduate of Yale College; the University of California Hastings College of the Law and the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Among five interim trustees named to the Bishop Estate after the temporary removal of trustees in May, Lau will continue at that post.

"Because of the historic changes occurring at Bishop Estate, HEI will continue to fully support Connie's participation as an interim trustee of the Kamehameha Schools Bishop Estate," said Robert Clarke, HEI chairman.

She is also trustee or director of Punahou School; the Consuelo Zobel Alger Foundation and the Maunalani Foundation.
