Windward Mall is seeking bids from theater operators for a planned 10-screen cinema complex at the mall.

The theaters, targeted to open next summer, are to occupy a 43,000 square-foot area formerly occupied by JC Penney on the top half of the mall's second level. The first level of the JC Penney building is to be used for retail shops and a new entry into the mall.

Windward Mall recently purchased the leasehold interest in the JC Penney building at the mall from J.C. Penney Co.

Mall operators are anticipating a 25 percent increase in customer traffic from the theaters. Mall General Manager Clive L. Cabral said sales have grown 2.5 percent in the past six months.
