Hawaiian Airlines Inc. and Continental Airlines Inc. today announced a joint code-sharing pact aimed at easing connections between mainland and Hawaii destinations.

The partnership provides customers an expanded flight schedule and services including one-stop check-in and frequent-flier mileage sharing, the airlines said. Continental and Hawaiian will share booking codes in worldwide computer reservations systems for about 150 daily jet flights operated by Hawaiian. The pact also provides connections between Hawaiian's interisland flights and Continental's nonstop flights to Hawaii from Houston, New York, Newark and Los Angeles.

The partnership expands a cooperative marketing relationship initiated between the two airlines in 1997. The airlines' already offer customers coordinated one-stop baggage check-in and boarding passes for travel between airline destinations.

Hawaiian Airlines is the nation's 12th U.S. largest carrier while Continental Airlines is the fifth largest.
