Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Rick Reed won his sixth straight decision and Benny Agbayani and Robin Ventura drove in three runs each to help the New York Mets win their sixth straight game, 7-5, over the Pittsburgh Pirates last night.

Agbayani, a former St. Louis School and Hawaii Pacific star, went 2-for-4 to raise his average to .300.

Reed (9-3) hasn't lost in 10 starts since June 4 against the Yankees.

Armando Benitez walked four straight batters with one out in the ninth to cut the Mets' lead to 7-5. He threw 19 of 24 pitches for balls. Turk Wendell came in and got Abraham Nunez to pop out and Brian Giles to ground out for his third save.

Francisco Cordova (5-5) allowed a two-run single to Ventura and an RBI single to Agbayani in the first inning.

The Mets scored three runs in the fourth inning, with help of four walks. Scott Sauerbeck walked Ventura with the bases loaded and allowed a two-run single to Agbayani.
