Chinatown Night Market
opens tomorrow

Opening ceremonies for the Chinatown Night Market will begin 6:15 p.m. tomorrow at the corner of Maunakea and Pauahi streets.

The new street fair is patterned after popular outdoor evening markets in Asia, and will feature food sales, gift and product booths and an entertainment stage featuring Hawaiian music and cultural performances from 7 to 9 p.m.

A two-block stretch of Maunakea Street, from Pauahi to King streets, will be closed to traffic from 6 to 11 p.m. for the event.

A traditional Chinese lion dance and an explosion of fireworks will start the festivities.

The event is being sponsored by the Chinatown Merchants Association and City and County of Honolulu.
