Waikiki kiosk opens to help visitors
Tourist directions -- this way.A new "Aloha Kiosk" opened recently near the corner of Kaiulani and Kalakaua to provide information and directions to Waikiki visitors.
Trained volunteers staff the kiosk, sponsored by the City's Office of Economic Development, seven days a week. They hand out brochures and maps provided by the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau.
A&B office deal fetches $26 million
Alexander & Baldwin Inc. has sold a four-story, 109,000-square-foot building in Seattle for $26 million. The building, owned by two A&B subsidiaries, was acquired in 1989 for $17.8 million.Since 1994 A&B has sold four properties for more than $100 million and acquired 13 properties in Hawaii and on the mainland.
Amazon.com seeks help in book flap
SEATTLE -- Internet bookseller Amazon.com has asked a federal court to declare that it can continue to cite the New York Times' best-seller list in advertising discount prices, the company said.Amazon.com announced May 17 that it would offer 50 percent discounts on books on the Times' best-seller list.
In a statement today, Amazon.com said the Times demanded May 28 in a letter that Amazon.com stop using the list for promotions, saying Amazon was infringing on the newspaper's copyright and trademark.
The Times did not immediately return a telephone call for comment today.
