Report: Man allegedly
with Tuinei is indicted

DALLAS -- A man who allegedly was with former Cowboys star Mark Tuinei when he overdosed on drugs reportedly has been indicted.

A Dallas County grand jury has indicted Keelan Murray on a charge of possessing a controlled substance, television station KXAS said today.

No word yet on the specific of the case against Murray, or whether police have him in custody.

An autopsy reported the 39-year-old former All-Pro offensive tackle died of a heroin overdose May 6. Friend and former teammate Nicky Sualua says he tried to revive Tuinei, but was unsuccessful.

Tuinei died the same day he was to return to live in Hawaii, where he had taken a job as assistant football coach at Punahou, his alma mater.

Tuinei played 15 years in the NFL, winning three Super Bowl rings with during his career with the Cowboys.

Baseball honors to
Waipahu’s Williams

Jerome Williams, who excelled on the mound and at the plate for the Waipahu Marauders this past season, has been named the 1999 Gatorade Circle of Champions Hawaii High School Baseball Player of the Year.

Williams, who also was selected Western Division Player of the Year yesterday in all-star voting by the OIA coaches, qualifies for regional and national Gatorade Circle of Champions honors.

HAMMERHEADS AT BLAISDELL

The Hawaii Hammerheads go for a two-game sweep of the visiting Rocky Mountain Thunder tonight in a 7:30 Indoor Professional Football League game at Blaisdell Arena.

Hawaii beat the Colorado team, 57-40, last Sunday at Blaisdell.

The Thunder (4-2) have the league's second-best offense (38.2 points per game).

The Hammerheads (3-3) are the second-best defensive team (35.5 ppg).

Hawaii also has the top-rated IPFL quarterback in Tim Carey while split back Falaniko Vitale is the league's co-leader in scoring.

WAIMANALO POLO MATCHES

Polo continues Sunday at Waimanalo, with the gates opening at 1 p.m. and games starting at 2:30.

Admission is $3, with children under 12 free.

FUN DAY FOR GOLFERS

The Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki and Golf Club will host a fun-filled event for golf enthusiasts on Saturday, June 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the golf club's driving range in Ewa Beach.

Hawaii Golf Representatives Association Demo Day will offer a barbecue, golf booths, a closest-to-the-pin contest and other activities for the whole family.

Among the participating vendors displaying their golf wares will be Titleist, Taylor Made, Wilson and Ping.

Kaneohe's Dean Wilson shot a first-round 70 and was one of nine players four strokes behind Taiwan's Chen Yuan-Chi after the first round of the Philippine Open golf tournament yesterday in Manila.
