A press release sent out by the Harlem Globetrotters yesterday was premature, but former Hawaii forward Erin Galloway said he plans to sign with the touring basketball team as soon as he receives the contract in the mail.

"I told them on the phone last weekend I would sign," said Galloway.

A release sent out from the Globetrotters' office in Phoenix said Galloway had already signed.

Galloway said he expects to join the team in Phoenix by the end of this month.

He said he never saw the Globetrotters play before joining them on the College All-Star series tour through Oakland (April 25), Detroit (May 1) and Cincinnati (My 2).

"I never saw them in person as a kid, maybe just on TV," he said. "But I'm excited about this."

The 6-foot-8 Galloway got a chuckle out of the Globetrotters' statement in the release that he possesses a 48-inch vertical jump.

"Well maybe with the new shoes they give me," he said.

Galloway's leap, which allowed him to block 74 shots in two seasons for the Rainbows, was last measured at 44 inches.
