Jay Larrin
salutes mom

Mug shot CAN Mother's Day be upon us already? It is Sunday, you know, so you'd better get your mom (or more importantly, your kids' mom) some flowers or whatever. You might consider taking her to a special Mother's Day show Jay Larrin will be hosting tomorrow night at the Sheraton Waikiki's Niihau Room. It'll be highlighted by a tribute to his mom, Miss Annie, as she's known to his fans. They've come to know her over the years through Jay's sometimes funny and often heartwarming tales of growing up with her in Tennessee. Miss Annie died last year at this time, so Jay is sure to bring back some fond memories ...

ONE mom who's not faring well at the moment is Aunty Genoa Keawe. She's recovering from a hip injury that was serious enough to keep her from a scheduled appearance at the Waialae Country Club's monthly "Hawaiian Night." Since she couldn't make it, Aunty Genoa sent along her granddaughter, Pomaikai, a Punahou senior who brought down the house. Many people said they felt they were witnessing the mantle being passed ...

IN Hollywood, it's definitely who you know. Aspiring actor Matty Liu is a pal of Columbia Pictures producer Chris Lee, both being "local boys." Matty met Jennifer Lopez at a party Lee threw, and the two hit it off so well that he's now starring in her latest music video. And Liu is known to be interested in joining the cast of "Baywatch." Formerly a regular in "Wind on Water," Liu is also a former pro surfer ...

Bay watching for real

THE executive producer of "Baywatch," Greg Bonann, seems to be settling in for the long haul. He has a new personal assistant, Lanikai resident Colleen Read, and she's negotiating a lease for him at a Portlock residence on the water so he'll have a "Baywatch" view of Maunalua Bay. Ever since it was announced that the syndicated show would be filmed in Hawaii, Bonann has been a familiar face at Border's, browsing the Hawaiiana section and picking up books on such things as Hawaiian history and culture plus science and geography. He seems determined to make this year's shows anything but just a jiggle-oh! ...

DON'T anyone mention this to Fabio if you see the model strutting around town, trying to shed his horrific tale of being "goosed" in the face while riding a roller coaster. The bird that hit him died, and Fabio suffered a bloody nose, but he's doubtless now leery of thrill rides so he might want to avoid "The Inverter." That's a harrowing ride appearing in Hawaii for the first time at the Honolulu Jaycees 50th State Fair opening May 28 and running for four weekends ...

Three for the show

THE producers of "Hard Copy" are planning at least three shows with a Hawaii base for this month's ratings period. One is "Real Life Baywatch Hawaii" based on video clips of actual rescues; a second is on "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous on Maui," showcasing, in part, the Four Seasons Resort; thirdly they're looking at the story of Mark Monazzami and his wife, Nahid Davoodabai, who was killed by a shark off Maui in March. KGMB-TV's Jerry Drelling, the only TV reporter to interview the husband in the hospital, was interviewed for the show. If you want to watch these shows you might consider programming your VCR since it airs at 12:30 a.m. Monday through Friday on KGMB-TV ...
