He most recently was manager of aviation fuels for BHP Hawaii Inc. and Tesoro Petroleum Corp. Pinion also was commander of the Defense Fuel Region, Pacific, and commander of the Defense Logistics Agency, Pacific, at Camp H.M. Smith. He was responsible for petroleum logistics and planning. Pinion also was director of facilities management at the Defense Fuel Supply Center in Virginia. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of South Carolina and a master's degree in petroleum management from the University of Kansas.
