McDermott’s a
‘big fan’ of
breast-feeding

Rep. Bob McDermott's wife, Jacinta, breast-fed their three sons, who are now 9, 10 and 11 years old. So it shouldn't be a surprise that McDermott (R, Foster Village) is supporting a measure that would allow employers to grant female workers an unpaid hour every workday to breast-feed their infants.

Last week, after GOP colleagues Chris Halford of Kihei and Jim Rath of Kailua-Kona voted "no" in an unsuccessful effort to stop the bill from advancing to the House Finance Committee, McDermott declared: "I'd just like to say I'm a big fan of breast-feeding."

"That's why you're so large," quipped House Speaker Calvin Say (D, Palolo), alluding to his 6-foot-2, 210-pound build.

Moments after the retort, the House chamber erupted in laughter.
