Kapolei water park to hold job fair

Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park said it will hold a job fair this week, seeking to hire 300 people for the theme park it is completing at Kapolei.

The jobs mostly pay the minimum wage of $5.25 an hour.

The company said a huge turnout is expected at Kapolei Elementary School for the fair which runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow through Saturday.

The park had more than 1,000 people apply for just 30 supervisory jobs at a March 13 event.

Intel fights AMD with faster chip

SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Intel Corp., the world's largest computer-chip maker, introduced a faster version of its Celeron processors for low-cost personal computers as it looks to regain market share lost to rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

Intel is already shipping its 433-megahertz Celeron, which costs $169, and several personal computer makers including Compaq Computer Corp. and Dell Computer Corp. introduced new systems featuring the chip.

OPEC firms stance on cut in oil output

VIENNA, Austria -- OPEC's effort to reduce oil output and boost prices gained momentum today when Russia announced its intention of cutting exports by 100,000 barrels a day. Oil-producing nations essentially have agreed to slash total daily production by more than 2 million barrels, Venezuelan Oil Minister Ali Rodriguez said.

"Agreement tomorrow is confirmed," he said here ahead of tomorrow's meeting of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

The meeting is expected to result in formal approval of the output cuts agreed upon earlier this month.

NEW YORK -- French conglomerate Vivendi SA said today it would acquire Palm Desert, Calif.-based U.S. Filter Corp., the largest U.S. water treatment company, for $6.2 billion.
