Martial arts and movie star Jackie Chan makes his first public Hawaii appearance Saturday as part of a series of events planned throughout Sea Life Park Hawaii.

Chan will be a guest at a special performance at the Whaler's Cove that will include an appearance by the Narcissus Queen and her court. The winner of a young person's Chan impersonation contest at the Pirates' Lagoon will receive an award from Chan.

Parkgoers throughout the day will be eligible for a drawing for autographed Chan photographs and tickets for the Martial Arts Spectacular Sunday at Blaisdell Center.

Kamaaina admission to the park is $12 for ages 13 and up, $6 for ages 4-12. The park is open 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Call 259-7933.

Young musicians take stage

Six Honorable Mention winners from the 1998 Honolulu Symphony Youth Talent Competition will perform in a recital sponsored by the orchestra at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Orvis Auditorium.

bullet Violinist Jean Marie A. Barnhart, 14, a student at Punahou School, performing Charles De Beriot's Violin Concerto in A minor.

bullet Violinist Alycia Hatashima, 11, Punahou School, performing Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in A minor.

bullet Violinist Paul Ogawa, 17, Punahou School, performing Pablo de Sarasate's Zegeunerwasen, Op. 20.

bullet Violinist Richard Lee, 13, Kawananakoa Intermediate School, performing excerpts from Vivaldi's Violin Concerto in G minor.

bullet Violinist Stephanie Oh, 10, Trinity Lutheran School, performing Giocoso's Violin Concerto, Op. 48.

bullet Oboist Brad Shimizu, 16, Roosevelt High School, playing Marcello's Oboe Concerto in C minor.

Each spring the Honolulu Symphony Associates hosts a youth talent competition for local musicians 18 and under. Winners perform live with the orchestra in a Honolulu Symphony season performance.
