Matavao cited

Brigham Young-Hawaii's Pa'u-lasi Matavao, who led the Seasiders to a pair of Pacific West Conference basketball victories on the mainland last week, has been named Player of the Week in the PacWest Pacific Division.

The senior from American Samoa matched his career high with 29 points and snared 14 rebounds at Montana State-Billings, then had 16 points and six rebounds at Western New Mexico.

WAHINE SIGN GOALIE: Stephanie Pearson, a goalie for one of the premier club teams in the U.S., has signed to play for the University of Hawaii women's soccer team.

Pearson helped the Los Gatos (Calif.) Pumas to a 177-28-16 record. Over the last two seasons, she had 51 shutouts.

BOWLING FOR MIRACLES: The Independent Order of Foresters brings its Bowling for Miracles program to Hawaii next month for a bowl-a-thon at Leeward Bowl to benefit Kapiolani Medical Center Foundation.

The event will take place on March 6 from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
