Hayashi wins
Hilo tourney

Hilo's Kevin Hayashi took advantage of home-course conditions, cruising through a steady drizzle to a five-stroke victory yesterday in the $15,000 Sears Hilo Invitational golf tournament at the Hilo Municipal course.

Hayashi, who seized the lead with a sizzling 7-under-par 64 in Saturday's first round, finished with a 1-under 70 for a 36-hole total of 134.

John Hearn shot a 69 yesterday, good for second place at 139. Lance Suzuki and Dean Wilson both shot 68s to tie for third at 140.

Hayashi, an assistant professional at the Hilo Muni, earned the first prize of $4,000.

Kauai's Jonathan Ota took amateur honors with a 72--142 finish, one stroke better than Shane Hoshino.
