Young hands keep
tradition alive

Three-year-old Jayna Yonekura forms mochi balls at her
family's Wahiawa home to help ring in 1999. Every year,
the Yonekuras invite relatives, neighbors and friends to
make mochi. Each family brings a 5-pound bag of
mochi rice, which is steamed, pounded and
formed into mochi.
