Surfers set to go
in Haleiwa meet

The 29th annual G-Shock/Surf & Sea Haleiwa International Open Goodwill Surfing Championships are scheduled to start tomorrow at Alii Beach with top amateurs from Hawaii, Japan, the U.S. mainland and elsewhere.

The competition will be held on the four days with the best surf conditions between tomorrow and Sunday, Jan. 3.

MIANO, WALLACE QB CLUB SPEAKERS: New Hawaii defensive backs coach Rich Miano and UH men's head basketball coach Riley Wallace will be the featured speakers at Monday's Honolulu Quarterback Club at the Pagoda Hotel.

Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and the program starts at noon.

CALIFORNIA WRESTLERS WIN MAUI MEET: Rancho Bernardo (Calif.) High School captured the team title and Saia Lotulelei of Maui and Jonathan Padgett of Fruitland (Ore.) were named the outstanding individuals in the 30th annual Maui Invitational Wrestling Tournament last weekend at Wailuku.

Punahou, Fruitland and Kalaheo finished 2-3-4 in the 20-team field.

Hillary Broad of Kalaheo was selected the outstanding wrestler in the girls' competition after taking the 140-pound title.
