Ocean Research Panel

Patrick K. Sullivan is the only Hawaii member of the national Ocean Research Advisory Panel. The group coordinates oceanographic programs. During the last two years, research programs were funded at $14 million and $19.5 million.

Sullivan was appointed by the Secretary of the Navy to a four-year term.

The advisory panel's objective is to increase the United States' capability and competitiveness in the ocean.

"There's a concern that investments in ocean research have been declining," Sullivan said. "We want to increase investment, and we're looking at changes of hundreds of millions of dollars."

Sullivan has 18 years in ocean research. He is founder and president of Oceanit Laboratories Inc., a Hawaii-based company established in 1985 to provide engineering consulting services and research and development initiatives.
