It's easy for 11-year-old Titaina Panee to get good grades and love her part-time job. Always going for 110 percent
For the past two years, Panee has been performing hula three nights a week at the Polynesian Cultural Center. "I enjoy working with older people," she said.
A sixth-grader at Hauula Elementary School, Panee has a 4.0 grade point average and excels in everything she sets her mind to, said Laurie Flores, Panee's fifth-grade teacher last year.
One day, Panee was sick and couldn't go to school. So she sent an e-mail message to Flores and asked if she could have her homework assignment sent back to her through the e-mail.
"You have kids who do what they have to do to get by, but Titaina always strives for that 110 percent," Flores said. Panee is also good at searching for information on the Internet.
Panee said she hopes to get into Kamehameha Schools next year, since her great-grandfather, grandfather, grandmother and father all attended school there.
She's also looking forward to visiting Washington, D.C., and Virginia in June. Panee and 14 other fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade Hauula students will visit the East Coast for a one-week educational field trip, led by Flores.
"She's a wonderful student who sets high goals for herself and who works hard to accomplish them," Flores said.
