Okada final
Fever winner
His pick of Texas A&M over
Star-Bulletin staff
Kansas State helps him claim
the $500 weekly prizeGeorge Okada's luck with Hawaii's bowl games seems to run deep.
In 1986, he had the winning key that unlocked a Jeep Wrangler at the Aloha Bowl. Yesterday, his 7-3 ballot was the first chosen among those that were equal to or better than the best of our celebrity panelist. Thus, he is the final 1998 winner of the Football Fever contest, which is sponsored by the Star-Bulletin and the Jeep Oahu Bowl. Okada wins $500 and four tickets to the games on Christmas Day.
Perhaps Okada's most surprising pick of the week was Texas A&M over Kansas State in the Big 12 Conference championship game. Okada took A&M, mostly on the strength of his dislike for Kansas State.
"I was stationed in Missouri (in the Army) and they were their big rival," Okada explained. "I still like Missouri."
Every ballot cast this season is eligible for the Grand Prize of an Infinity Sound System home entertainment center valued at $10,000, the first prize of a trip for two to the Hooters Hula Bowl on Maui next month, and the second prize of two round-trip air fares to or from the U.S. mainland.
The top celebrity panelists last week were KINE-FM morning show host Brickwood Galuteria and Star-Bulletin writer Cindy Luis, both of whom were 5-5. The Star-Bulletin's Randy Cadiente was the top picker for the season with a record of 92-48.
