
Celebrate one of nature's largest mammals by attending a variety of Maui events presented by the Pacific Whale Foundation. Whale watching

If you want to see the whale but can't handle the rocking and bouncing of the boat, visit the foundation's Ocean Outreach Van, which never leaves the land. From Dec. 15 through May 1 the van will be at Macgreggor Point Lookout on Route 30 (Honoapiilani Highway) between Lahaina and Kihei from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be whale displays, and marine research naturalists will be on hand to answer questions and point out a whale or too. Free.
Other highlights include "Maui's Parade of Whales" on Feb. 20. The parade begins the foundation's annual week-long whale celebration. Storytelling week for children ages 2-6 will be February 22-26 at several public libraries. And, "Whale Day on Maui" offers food, entertainment, a craft fair, games and a silent auction on Feb. 27.
