Sen. Kanno has new
addition to household

With long committee hearings, late-night deadlines and conference committee negotiations, lawmakers sometimes don't get much sleep during the legislative session. But one senator isn't getting much sleep before the session even begins.

That's because Sen. Brian Kanno and his wife, Lorrie, are the proud parents of their first child, Keolanui Masako Kanno. Keolanui was born Oct. 8 at 2:42 a.m. after 14 hours of labor. She weighed 7 pounds and 9.5 ounces at birth. Her name means "long life" or "great life," Kanno said.

INAUGURATION COVERAGE: All four major television stations plan to cover Gov. Ben Cayetano's inauguration live next Monday.

KHON and KGMB will be live from about 11:45 a.m. KITV and KHNL will cut into programming shortly before the governor takes the oath of office at noon on the Iolani Palace grounds. Olelo plans to cover the entire inauguration ceremony beginning at 10:30, according to Kathleen Racuya-Markrich, the governor's spokeswoman.

Pre-inaugural entertainment includes the Royal Hawaiian Band, the Kamehameha Schools Glee Club and Keali'i Reichel singing "Hawaii Pono'i."

The inauguration is open to the public and free, but access to the seating area is by invitation only.

Entertainment at the Inaugural Gala Monday night will be provided by the Society of Seven. However, tickets for that event at the Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel cost $225 apiece.
