On this Thanksgiving Day, we'll let our readers say why they're lucky to live in Hawaii: Thanks, Hawaii people,
for all your kind deeds
Mahalo
To all the Red Cross staff and volunteers for taking care of the people of Pacific Palisades at the Pearl City Recreation Center during the standoff on Oct. 29 and 30. -- Grateful resident
To Manoa Park and Recreation personnel and affiliated organizations for the fun evening of carnival games and food on Halloween. -- No name
To everyone who helped my son Vince and nephew Kevin when their fishing boat capsized in Waianae on Sept. 12 and Vince was swept into rough waters. Mahalo especially to Pat Lagrimas Jr. and Donald Rocklen of the "Loma Lani," who found Vince; Craig Davidson, Jason Patterson and Waianae Harbor Master William Aila. We believe the boat, "Sharkey," brought in their overturned boat and belongings. -- The Chuns
To Mark Leong of the state Vector Control Branch. He found mosquito breeding in our neighbor's irrigation system for their landscape design and recommended simple corrections. Now I can enjoy being in my yard at peace. -- Bob Iinuma
To all those who helped when my kayak drifted off Paiko Peninsula on Oct. 10. Lloyd Ignacio, a complete stranger, helped retrieve it just before sundown outside Black Point. Mahalo also to HFD battalion chief Kent Hamasaki and firefighters from the Kaimuki and Waikiki stations; and to Sharon; Aloha Lasit, "8-year-old Prayer Warrior"; Ms. Morgan Suttle and other friends: They were the beacons of light from the Kaneohe branch of Hope Chapel on the beach. -- Leslie G. Chung
To the man who helped me untangle my car from the chain at Ala Moana Center and another man who also helped. -- C.Y.
To three HPD officers who came to check when my alarm went off. -- L. Ing
To postman Jon Manago, who grabbed a 6-foot boa constrictor by the tail with his bare hands, threw it in the back of his truck and called authorities. Our St. Louis Heights neighborhood was much relieved! -- Jane Martin
To the two service gentlemen who helped when my car was on fire at 8 p.m. Oct. 22 on the H-1. One warned me the car was on fire; the other extinguished it. Mahalo also to HPD and the fire department. -- Steve Lee
To Juan Garcia of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands. We faced missing deadlines and, ultimately, losing more than just an important loan. He walked our paperwork to every department, explained our situation and got approval in less than one-third the normal time! His dedication and professionalism allowed him to see the human side of a situation. -- Garcia family, Nanakuli
To a fine young lady who was shopping at the Navy PX. I went to buy paper towels on sale, but they were all out. She gave me one of the rolls from her basket. -- Ruth
To the Waianae fire station for rescuing an ordinary cat stranded along the canal by the Samoan church on Kahau Place. Such a small thing, but so nice of them. -- Clarence
To Kaneohe Rep. Ken Ito who took time out of sign waving to drive me home when my car died on Kamehameha Highway near the Union 76 station on Oct. 27. I am 100 percent disabled and walk with a cane. -- Kathleen Y. Hise
To the lady who left a box of papayas in our garage after we let her pick our stephanotis flowers. We misplaced the card that had her name on it. -- Anonymous
To Milton Tsutsumi and Andrew Park, who noticed I had a flat tire on the H-1 freeway on Nov. 4. They followed me to Bingham Street to help me change it. -- E.E.
To Kyle, who returned my purse to me after I left it at the Kahala Post Office. Everything was intact, including $420 cash. To be able to believe in people -- that's what this is about. -- Terry
