Chester Au, 57, a partner in C&N Auto Tech mechanic shop in Kaneohe, died Thursday at home. Chester Au, 57,
was hurt by daughter's
unsolved murderAu was thrust into the spotlight in January 1982 when his daughter, Lisa, was abducted and her car found near Kailua Drive In. Ten days later, on Jan. 31, her body was found on Tantalus. Although suspects, including a police officer, were questioned, no one was ever charged in the slaying.
Au told a Honolulu Star-Bulletin reporter earlier this year: I still think about it today. I feel disappointed with the system but I learned to deal with the fact that nothing ever is going to be done.
The case, which was featured on the network television show Inside Edition in 1992, was the source of years of emotional upheaval for the Au family, which sued the police for negligence in the investigation and hired a former police detective for an unsuccessful effort to find Lisa's killer.
Au told the reporter that the case contributed to his divorce from Lisa's mother in the early 1990s. Patrice Au-Kaunamano died in 1992.
Au is survived by son Chester Jr.; daughter Mei Li Jack; sisters Barbara Lee and Jerene Kwapy of Pacific, Mo.; and two grandchildren.
