Mele Kalikimaka,
From John & Violet

Photography by Ken Ige, Star-Bulletin

Twenty years ago, John Lim planted a Norfolk pine outside
his Hawaii Kai home. Lim died this year, but it was his request
that the tree, now 50 feet tall, be donated for the Honolulu City
Lights centerpiece. The tree was harvested yesterday, and
tomorrow, Lim will get his wish: The tree will take its
place on the lawn of Honolulu Hale.

Above, Violet Lim holds a picture of her late husband, John, as
the Norfolk pine outside their Hawaii Kai home is harvested
for use in the Honolulu City Lights celebration. Below,
Violet saved two pine cones from the tree, hoping to one
day have a family Christmas tree from them.
