FUKUOKA, Japan (AP) - Yokozunas (grand champions) Takanohana and Wakanohana both lost Tuesday, leaving Takanohana with just one victory in the first three days of the 15-day Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament. Takanohana,
Wakanohana upsetMusashimaru, or Fiamalu Penitani from Hawaii, remained undefeated at 3-0, but fellow ozeki (champion) Takanonami suffered his second defeat.
Takanohana, seeking his 21st tournament title and third in a row, was crushed down by No. 1 maegashira (senior wrestler) Tochiazuma, who fought off Takanohana's arm throw attempt at the ring's edge. Both wrestlers now are 1-2.
Wakanohana (2-1) pushed out No. 1 maegashira Kaio, but it was after the yokozuna's left heel had gone out of the ring as he circled away from Kaio's initial charge.
The referee first called Wakanohana the winner, but the five judges consulted and found his heel mark outside the ring.
It was the third straight victory for Kaio, who beat Takanonami and Takanohana on the first two days.
Musashimaru charged winless No. 2 maegashira Higonoumi with hand thrusts and crushed him down.
Komusubi (junior champion second class) Kotonowaka toppled Takanonami with an arm throw, leaving both wrestlers at 1-2.
Sekiwake (junior champion) Chiyotaikai (3-0), seeking promotion to ozeki, sent out winless No. 2 maegashira Kaiho with hand thrusts.
No. 12 maegashira Kyokushuzan, or Mongolian Batbayar Davaa, was thrown down by No. 9 maegashira Minatofuji for his second defeat against one victory. Minatofuji is 2-1.
In the 26-member juryo division, just below the senior makuuchi division, No. 2-ranked Kyokutenho, or Mongolian Tsevegnyam Nyamjav, was pushed out by No. 5-ranked Zenshinyama (2-1) for his second defeat against one victory.
No. 10-ranked Hoshitango, or Argentine Imach Marcelo Salomon, suffered his second defeat against one victory, losing to No. 12-ranked Susanoumi (1-2) by an arm throw technique.
In makushita, the top junior division, No. 5-ranked Hoshiandesu, or Argentine Jose Antonio Juarez, slapped down No. 4-ranked Tamarikido for his first victory against one defeat.
No. 11-ranked Wakaazuma, or Yoshinobu Kuroda from Brazil, was pulled down by No. 10-ranked Oominato for his first defeat against one victory.
In sandanme, the second-highest junior division, No. 15-ranked Ryuko, or Brazilian Luis Go Ikemori, crushed down No. 16-ranked Komanofuji for his second victory against no defeats.
Wrestlers in junior divisions have only seven bouts during the tournament.
