Mansfield’s perseverance
pays off in Football Fever

One of the many ballots he sent in
gets the weekly prize

The wait is over for Shaun "Boomer" Mansfield.

After sending in countless ballots trying to win the Star-Bulletin's Football Fever contest, the owner of a women's clothing business in Hawaii is finally a winner.

"I was hoping I won this week," Mansfield said.

"I've been entering your contest for two years and I usually send in two-to-10 (ballots) each week. I sent in eight or nine this week. I haven't been discouraged that I didn't win before.

"I'm an avid football fan and I think your contest is fantastic."

Mansfield, the president of Boomer's Hawaii, picked 9 out of 10 correct and is the 10th weekly winner of $500 and four tickets to the Jeep Oahu Bowl on Christmas Day.

His ballot was the first picked among those whose results were equal to or better than the best of our celebrity panelists.

Herbert Chow Hoy, last week's Football Fever winner, led the panel with an 8-2 record.

Mansfield's only wrong pick this week was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who lost to the visiting Tennessee Oilers, 31-22.

"If you looked at the game, Tampa Bay never lost at home," said Mansfield.
