What ever happened to Myles Fukunaga, who had kidnapped and murdered the Jamieson child for ransom in either the 1920s or early 1930s? Fukunaga hanged
for 1928 murderMyles Yutaka Fukunaga was executed for the murder of 10-year-old George Gill Jamieson, who was the son of a Hawaiian Trust executive.
According to news reports, Fukunaga, 19, abducted Jamieson from Punahou School on the morning of Sept. 18, 1928. Fukunaga took the child to the mauka side of the Seaside Hotel and strangled him to death; the body was later found in the Ala Wai Canal.
The afternoon of the abduction, the boy's father received a $10,000 ransom note for the boy's safe return. The father gave $4,000 to a masked man at McKinley High School who ran away with the money.
Fukunaga was apprehended a few days later coming out of a Fort Street adult establishment after the serial numbers on the ransom money were traced.
He was arrested and later confessed to the murder.
Fukunaga was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to death. He was hung at Oahu Prison on Nov. 19, 1929, at 8:24 a.m.
