over Mullen in State OpenMeyer, a Pearl Country Club pro, shot a 71 yesterday for a 36-hole total of 140.
Jerry Mullen shot the day's best round, a four-under-par 68, and is in second place at 141.
Casey Nakama is third at 144, Chuck Davis and Dean Wilson are tied at 145 and Deron Doi is next at 146.
Defending champion Brian Sasada of Makena is in a three-way tie at 148.
The open division cut was 159, eliminating 70 players from the field of 150.
First place is worth $6,120 to the leading professional.
Defending women's champion Camie Hoshino, also a first-round leader, leads Christel Tomori by three shots with a 36-hole score of 147.
Dean Prince also led for the second day in a row in the senior division with a 146.
Wally Iwasaki and Wendell Kop are tied for second at 150.
MACDONALD WINS OFF-ROAD RACE: Former U.S. Olympic runner Duncan Macdonald won the four-mile Off-Road Challenge yesterday at Kualoa Ranch with a time of 22 minutes and 57 seconds.
Mareike Ressing was the first to finish in the Female Open Division with a 26:50 clocking.
Macdonald shaded Gary Nettles by five seconds for Male Open Division honors. Steve Jenness was third in 23:20.
Rachel Leber (28:35) was second to Ressing and Crystal Corona (29:26) finished third.
UH HARRIERS LAST IN WAC MEET: The Hawaii women's cross-country team finished last in the 16-team Western Athletic Conference Championship meet Saturday at Rice.
Brigham Young won the team championship and BYU's Maggie Chan was the individual winner, finishing the 5,000-meter run in 16 minutes, 54 seconds.
Lisa Davis, clocked in 20 minutes to place 75th, was UH's top finisher.
OT WIN FOR HAWAII PACIFIC: Claus Petersen scored the game-winning goal two minutes into overtime as Hawaii Pacific edged Brigham Young-Hawaii, 3-2, Saturday in a men's soccer match at Laie.
Cesar Jube and Nick Paraske-vopoulous also scored goals for the Sea Warriors (5-7).
Walid Kaakoush headed in one goal for BYUH and Sam Tsukamoto tied the match for the Seasiders (6-4) with three minutes left in regulation time.
JUNG ON FIFTH-RANKED BARRY TEAM: Jessica Jung, a freshman out of Punahou School, is a defensive standout for Barry University of Florida, the No. 5 team in NCAA Division II volleyball.
Jung has had 160 digs for the Buccaneers, who are 16-4 this season.
The Miami Shores school won the Division II national championship in 1995.
