


The next Aloha State Games will be held in June, 2000, as the multi-sport event shifts to an every-other-year format, it was announced yesterday by Leonard Klompus of Bowl Games of Hawaii, which has produced the competition for the last seven years of its nine-year run. Aloha State Games
every other year"After a successful first decade in Hawaii, the Aloha State Games are entering a new phase as we prepare for the millennium," Klompus said. "The games have always been tied to and modeled after the Olympics. Now we'll match the Olympics in biennial format as well."
Klompus said future Aloha State Games winners will be eligible to compete in the biennial State Games of America competition, which is held in odd years.
Aloha State Games participants also will be eligible to win a trip to the Olympics. For those in the 2000 Aloha State Games, a trip to the Summer Olympics in Australia will be given away.
VULCANSSPIKE'SWORDS: Ginelle Palau put down 19 kills to lead Hawaii-Hilo past Chaminade, 15-4, 15-13, 17-15, last night in a PacWest Conference women's volleyball match on the Vulcans' court.
UH-Hilo is 11-14 overall and 6-7 in the PacWest. Chaminade is 9-16, 5-8.

LACROSSE IN THE PARK: The eighth annual Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational, with teams from Canada, Japan and the U.S. mainland joining the Hawaii Lacrosse Club in two days of competition, will be held Nov. 7-8 at Kapiolani Park.
Games will be played from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
KAILUA 2-0 IN TENNIS NATIONALS: The HPTA Kailua team won its first two round-robin matches by 3-0 scores yesterday in the United States Tennis Association 3.5 Senior League National Championships at Tucson, Ariz.
Kailua's swept three doubles matches against SCTA San Diego and three more against STA Atlanta.
Playing for the Hawaii team are Jim Ventura, Bill Heilbron, Tom Carpenter, Wyman Williams, Chuck Brewer, Andy Lopez, Hunter Kennedy and Bob Yoder.
Round-robin play wound up today. The semifinals and finals will be played tomorrow.
