1,000 Web experts
networking at UH

The Association for the Advancement of Computing in Education will hold its WebNet '99 conference today through Wednesday at the University of Hawaii.

The annual international conference serves as a multi-disciplinary forum for the exchange of information on the research, development and application of topics related to the World Wide Web.

The event includes speeches by renowned experts, tutorials, panels, discussions, demonstrations and corporate sessions.

More than 1,000 delegates from 50 countries were to attend.

UH Director of Information Technology David Lassner said holding the conference here makes information on what's happening elsewhere more accessible to the local community. Previous sites have been in San Francisco, Toronto and Orlando.

"In addition, it provides our own local innovators and businesses a chance to showcase their accomplishments and services to an international audience," he said.
