Full speed ahead at
American Hawaii Cruises

Tom Carman will use his marine engineering background at American Hawaii Cruises as the company makes design plans for two new passenger ships. A contract is expected to be signed next April to get the first ship in service by late 2002.

"We are continuing to go through design evaluations," Carman said. "We will continue the emphasis on Hawaii and Hawaiian culture."

The cruise line now operates the S.S. Independence on trips through the islands.

Carman has been involved in the design, construction and operation of passenger vessels for 15 years and most recently was senior vice president for marine operations at American Hawaii Cruises.

He has more than seven years experience with the Hawaii company; its sister company, The Delta Queen Steamboat Co.; and the parent company, American Classic Voyages Inc.
