Young violinist performs
works of Strauss

16-year-old Sarah Chang has
two concert dates with the symphony

A seasoned performer in a successful solo career, violinist Sarah Chang has played with many of the world's finest orchestras.

What's the big deal? Chang is 16 years old.

She returns to Hawaii for two performances on Sunday and Tuesday with the Honolulu Symphony in a program featuring Strauss' "Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche," Opus 28, and Violin Concerto, Opus 68. Chang also performed with the symphony last year.

The symphony will be conducted by its music director Sam Wong.

Chang began studying the violin at age 4 and was performing with orchestras in the Philadelphia area at age 5. Her first album, "Debut" (1992), was recorded when she was 9, using a quarter-size violin.

The New York Times has said Chang is "approaching the kind of playing once produced by the legendary Heifetz."
