Rediscover

Moiliili SaturdayMemories line the windows and walls of the King Street side of Puck's Alley in Moiliili. Cross over to Central Pacific Bank and you'll discover even more.
Life, wonder and wisdom are vividly expressed in 25 photographic images depicting Moiliili history, all on loan from isle residents and showcased by area businesses. These will be on display through Nov. 6.
"It's a way of looking at the past and seeing how we want to shape our future," said Rebecca Ryan, member of the Moiliili Festival committee. "It sort of awakens the background of the area."
Which may be why a candidate forum is included in the third annual "Discover Moiliili Festival," Saturday at Old Stadium Park. Ryan describes 1998 as "rather volatile," making candidates eager to present their platforms. Ryan expressed hope that this forum will allow for a "reweaving of the social fabric" of the state.
Aside from politics, festival-goers can engage in an array of other pleasurable pursuits.
Shoppers can pick through the wares at the Farmer's Market, Country Store or various craft booths.
Children can participate in activities planned just for them, and all can benefit from the tales spun by master storyteller Glen Grant, of "Obake Files" fame.
Entertainment will include taiko drummers and the Royal Hawaiian Band.
A $5 spaghetti lunch will be available at the Moiliili Community Center from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Parking is available at Japanese Cultural Center. Cost is $2 for all-day parking. Call 955-1555 for more information.
