manage Waikiki
Shore condos

The hotel chain will
operate 94 units as suites

Outrigger Hotels & Resorts has won the management contract for the Waikiki Shore condominium complex and will operate about 94 of the 168 units as hotel suites starting Jan. 1.

Aston Hotels & Resorts has held the management contract since 1991 and will still manage some units.

It will be Outrigger's first condominium on Oahu and its third beachfront property in Waikiki.

The building, one of the early cooperative apartment high-rises in Waikiki, is next to the 883-room Outrigger Reef on the Beach. Waikiki Shore guests will have full access to the facilities of the Outrigger Reef, including its pool, exercise room and business center, said Perry Sorenson, Outrigger's chief operating officer.

Guests in the Outrigger-managed units in the Waikiki Shore also will have an option to upgrade their booking to include access to the Voyagers Club in the Outrigger Reef, a guest lounge that offers complimentary continental breakfasts and light afternoon snacks.

The proximity of the hotel also will allow Waikiki Shore guests to book Outrigger's bed and breakfast package, using the Chief's Hut and Shorebird restaurants in the Outrigger Reef.

On the other side of the Waikiki Shore is the open space of Fort DeRussy which includes the Army Museum.

Sorenson said visitors to Hawaii like condominium vacations and his company has done well managing resort condo units on the mainland for their owners.

The units in the Waikiki Shore range from studios to one- and two-bedroom suites; all have kitchens and washer-dryer units.

Rates posted for 1999 range from $170 for a studio to $550 for a two-bedroom unit facing the beach.
