


At the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Joann Chang, left, her daughter,
Jeanette, and Douglas and Valerie Chong inspect the golden dragon
they helped make under the tutelage of the internationally renowned
lantern-maker master, Xiong Wen-Dong. Constructing the dragon's
wire frame took 400 hours of cutting and shaping steel wires and
soldering the pieces before adding material and decorations.
The United Chinese Society and the Chinese Chamber of
Commerce sponsor the lantern project.
